Job Description: Development Director, Social Work and Human Services Nonprofit Management
Position Overview:
The Development Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all fundraising efforts to support the mission and programs of the organization. This position requires a strong background in nonprofit management, with a focus on fundraising strategies and donor relations. The Development Director will lead a team to cultivate and expand the organization's donor base, while also managing existing relationships with individual and corporate donors. This role requires excellent communication and leadership skills, as well as a deep understanding of nonprofit financial management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to meet the organization's financial goals and objectives.
2. Identify and cultivate relationships with potential major donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors to secure financial support.
3. Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising events, including galas, charity auctions, and donor appreciation events.
4. Lead and manage a team of fundraising professionals to ensure effective coordination of fundraising activities and achievement of targets.
5. Develop and maintain strong relationships with current donors, ensuring regular communication and timely acknowledgment of contributions.
6. Research and identify new funding opportunities, including grants and government funding, and develop compelling proposals to secure funding.
7. Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to create and implement effective donor engagement strategies, including newsletters, social media campaigns, and donor recognition initiatives.
8. Monitor and evaluate fundraising efforts, analyze data, and prepare reports for senior management and the board of directors.
9. Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in nonprofit fundraising, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
10. Ensure compliance with all legal and ethical standards related to fundraising activities.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, social work, business administration, or a related field.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on individual giving, major gifts, and corporate sponsorships.
3. Proven track record of successfully developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies that have resulted in increased revenue.
4. Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing and motivating a team of fundraising professionals.
5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including donors, board members, and staff.
6. Solid understanding of nonprofit financial management, budgeting, and reporting.
7. Proficiency in using fundraising software and CRM systems to track donor information, manage campaigns, and generate reports.
8. Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
9. Demonstrated ability to think strategically, identify new funding opportunities, and adapt fundraising strategies to changing circumstances.
10. Knowledge of ethical standards and legal requirements related to fundraising, including donor confidentiality and data protection.
